Dubai’s Dynamic Parking & Tolls Reduce Traffic by 10% on Key Roads

Dubai, UAE – Dynamic parking fees and tolls introduced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have significantly eased congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road, with traffic volumes dropping by up to 10% and public transport ridership rising by 4%, according to recent RTA data.

Key Traffic Reduction Figures

  • Dynamic Parking: Reduced traffic by 2.3% and increased public transport use by 1%.

  • Dynamic Toll Gates: Cut Sheikh Zayed Road congestion by 9% while boosting public transport ridership by 4%.

  • Quick-Win Solutions: Seven measures deployed between January and April 2025 reduced congestion by 5–10% on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General, presented these results to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, during a review of ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at supporting 8 million residents by 2040.


Major Road Projects Underway

1. Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra Corridor

  • Phase 1 Progress: 50% completed, spanning 16km from Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road.

  • Features: Four upgraded junctions, 7,000m of bridges/tunnels.

  • Impact: Travel time to drop from 46 minutes to 11 minutes; capacity to rise from 8,400 to 12,600 vehicles/hour.

  • Phases: Divided into three stages, with Phase 1 covering upgrades from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

2. Hessa Street Enhancements

  • Progress: 60% completed, with partial sections already open.

  • Upgrades: Four intersections improved via 9,000m of bridges.

  • Benefits: Capacity doubles to 8,000 vehicles/hour; travel time slashed from 30 minutes to 7 minutes.

  • Residents Served: 640,000.

3. Al Fay Street Corridor

  • Scope: Extends Al Khail Road to Emirates Road via Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.

  • Features: 12,900m of roads and five intersections with 13,500m of bridges.

  • Capacity: 64,400 vehicles/hour added post-completion.

  • Residents Served: 600,000.


RTA’s 2025–2027 Strategic Plan

  • Road Infrastructure: 226km of roads and 115 bridges/tunnels planned.

  • Key Corridors: Development of 11 major routes, including eight vertical corridors and three new roads.

  • Highlighted Projects:

    • Upgrades to Latifa bint Hamdan Street (Al Khail Road to Emirates Road).

    • Dubai World Trade Centre roundabout redevelopment.

    • Al Meydan Street and Al Mustaqbal Street improvements.


Long-Term Vision for 2040

Sheikh Hamdan reviewed timelines for projects set for completion by 2027, designed to enhance mobility for Dubai’s growing population. The Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra corridor alone will serve areas housing over 1 million residents, aligning with Dubai’s sustainable urban development goals.
